From One Flight Booking: How MeridianX Connects Travel Spending and On-Chain Finance

For most travelers, a journey begins with a flight search. Suitable departure times, competitive prices and reliable ticketing often determine where they book.

Behind an apparently simple ticket purchase, airlines, distributors and booking platforms must manage procurement, advance payments and settlement. The efficiency of these capital flows affects costs across the aviation supply chain and creates an opportunity to connect travel spending with financial infrastructure.

MeridianX is developing its business along this path. Through Dragonfly’s booking interface (https://cn.drag-onfly.com/#/pages/flight/flight), its aviation finance infrastructure is extending to consumers, connecting flight bookings, travel funds, membership benefits and on-chain settlement.

The Price Difference Behind One Flight Booking

For travelers, ticket prices are the most immediate consideration. A Dragonfly order illustrates how the aviation supply chain and payment method can affect the final cost of a booking.

In one user’s booking experience, the base fare for a flight on Ctrip was approximately RMB 3,000. After airport and fuel charges, the total was approximately RMB 3,300. The user then searched for the same flight on Dragonfly. The base fare was approximately 160 USDC (about RMB 1,067), and the order total after applicable charges was over 180 USDC (more than approximately RMB 1,200). According to the user’s conversion at the time, the two quotes differed by nearly RMB 2,000. The user ultimately booked through Dragonfly and completed payment using MXP.

Price differences like this begin with variations in flight supply and pricing across platforms.

A ticket can pass through different distribution channels before reaching the traveler. Procurement terms, sales channels, service costs and platform pricing can all affect the final price. Dragonfly sources flights through aviation distribution systems and procurement channels. On selected routes, favorable procurement terms can create an opportunity to offer more competitive prices.

Behind each booking, the aviation supply chain continues to operate: ticket issuance typically requires funds to be advanced for procurement, followed by order proceeds and settlement to complete the capital cycle. MeridianX is building aviation finance clearing infrastructure around this process, connecting the funding needs of ticket transactions with on-chain liquidity.

The order also illustrates another function: paying for a flight with MXP. After purchasing MXP and combining it with an existing balance, the user paid according to the platform’s payment quote at checkout. This gives MXP a connection to real travel spending.

The difference between flight quotes and changes in the price of MXP are two distinct factors. The former depends on each platform’s ticket quote at the time; the latter depends on the MXP purchase price, the conversion rate at payment and associated fees. MXP can rise or fall in price, so the actual difference associated with token payment varies by order.

Beginning with a single flight, the user sees a concrete price comparison and payment choice. Behind the order, MeridianX is working to connect ticket procurement, working capital and on-chain settlement more smoothly.

This example is based on one user-provided order. Fares vary by flight, inventory and search time; comparisons should account for cabin class, baggage, change and refund rules, and the applicable exchange rate. MXP prices fluctuate, and actual payment amounts are subject to the order quote.

From One Booking to the Next Journey

A reasonably priced booking with smooth ticket issuance can be a user’s first introduction to Dragonfly. For MeridianX, the opportunity is to extend that experience to the next journey.

The travel vault being developed will give users a way to manage funds for travel. Users will be able to retain a balance for future trips and participate in returns generated by working capital in the aviation business.

The travel vault will also support paying for flights directly with its balance. When planning a future journey, users can put their reserved travel funds toward a booking, bringing money management and everyday spending closer together.

This extends the relationship between users and the platform from a single transaction toward ongoing travel needs.

The Aviation Business Behind Travel Funds

Ticket procurement and distribution involve advance payments, ticket issuance and the collection of proceeds, with timing gaps between each stage. MeridianX’s on-chain clearing layer is being built around these workflows to bring stablecoin liquidity into aviation transactions and settlement.

As Dragonfly becomes more closely connected with this infrastructure, consumer travel balances will be linked to the underlying aviation business: funds support procurement and settlement, while a portion of related business proceeds supports participant returns.

The model is based on actual orders, working capital and settlement activity. Its continued operation depends on business performance, costs and liquidity management; neither principal nor returns are guaranteed.

For MeridianX, Dragonfly provides a consumer-facing entry point that makes its infrastructure easier to understand. Starting with a single flight, users can gradually become familiar with the financial services supporting travel transactions.

Membership Benefits and Uses for MXP

The membership system being developed around the travel vault will further connect users’ everyday travel with participation in the ecosystem.

Benefits will include monthly flight vouchers, early access to selected discounted fares and enhanced customer service. Eligible balances and MXP staking will be linked to membership tiers and their corresponding benefits.

These benefits serve practical travel needs: vouchers can be used for future bookings, priority service improves the experience, and membership tiers provide clearer rewards for continued participation.

MXP will also be further integrated into flight payments, membership purchases and staking-linked upgrades. As these functions roll out, the connection between the token, actual spending and service benefits will become more concrete.

Making On-Chain Settlement Easier to Understand

MeridianX is also advancing the connection between booking activity and on-chain settlement records, enabling users to learn about the flow of funds starting with their own orders.

A settlement record associated with a flight is easier to understand than an abstract technical explanation. It can help users see how the travel service they use connects with aviation finance infrastructure.

From flight bookings and the travel vault to membership benefits and on-chain settlement, MeridianX is bringing different parts of aviation finance into one user journey.

For travelers, these changes will ultimately be reflected in tangible experiences: an easier way to compare fares, a smooth payment and a way to prepare for the next journey. As the services continue to develop, the connection between aviation finance and everyday travel will become more visible.
